Project overview

Continuing from our earlier endeavor, Book My MOT, this phase involves shaping the complementary aspect of the application. We've meticulously crafted the user journey for scheduling appointments at a garage. Users can seamlessly navigate through their car's service history and access details on both past maintenance and upcoming appointments. This extension adds a comprehensive layer to the app, providing users with a holistic view of their vehicle's maintenance timeline.

The problem

Many individuals don't have the time or simply don't enjoy the process of having to find a garage to do their MOT.

Goals

Design a responsive website app that:

  • makes the process of looking for a garage easier

  • allows users to easily book an appointment at a chosen garage

  • helps the user know when to book their MOT

Log in/Sign up

After entering their car plate number, the user will be shown the details of their car, such as the MOT expiry date. Then, in order to make an appointment, they have the option to either quickly create an account or log in if they have already accessed the platform before.

Available Garages

After accessing the platform, the user is taken to this page where the available garages are being shown. Based on the location, the user is recommended some garages ar the top of the list. Each garage has its details when expanded and the user can choose a range of dates for when they want their MOT appointment.

Responsive Design

Of course, our users need the design to adapt to their electronic devices and not be limited to a laptop or PC. We came to the conclusion that this kind of web app will most likely be accessed through mobiles, so we started with the mobile design each time, and then increased the screen sizes up to desktop.

What I learned

I gained valuable insights into the importance of user testing, the iterative design process, and the importance of user-centred design principles. Additionally, the design of Book My MOT has provided me with an opportunity to explore new design solutions for a variety of users and situations.

Next steps

  • Develop the website accordingly.

  • Refine the design to make it even more user-friendly and intuitive.
